Colonel Col. Troy A. Cramer

Col. Troy A. Cramer is the 179th Airlift Wing Mission Support Group Commander, Air National Guard, Mansfield, Ohio. As the 179th AW MSG Commander, he leads a diverse team of civil engineers and firefighters, communication specialists, logistics readiness, security forces, personnel specialists and food service professionals supporting our Federal, State and Community Missions.

He joined the 179th AW in December 1990 as an Environmental Technologist, assigned to the 179 AW Civil Engineering Squadron. Col. Cramer received his commission, as a 2nd Lt. in May 1997, as a Personnel Officer in the Military Personnel Flight. In November 2005, he assumed his first command position as the Military Personnel Flight Commander and later assumed command as the Force Support Squadron Commander in May 2009. He served as the Force Support Squadron Commander until February 2012 when he was selected as the 179th AW Deputy Medical Group Commander, serving until August 2019, before transitioning into his current role as the 179th Mission Support Group Commander.    

Col. Cramer graduated from Bowling Green State University in May 1995 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science.  In 1996 he obtained full time employment as a dual-status military technician as the full-time 179th AW Base Environmental Manager and a military assignment as a Personnel Officer in the Military Personnel Flight.  As the Base Environmental Manager he received national recognition for his accomplishments and was recognized as the Environmental Manager of the Year in 2012.  He obtained a Master of Science Degree in 1998 from the University of Findlay and later a Master of Business Administration, also from the University of Findlay, in 2013.  He accepted a position as the full-time Medical Administrative Officer in March 2012 and a military assignment as the Deputy Medical Group Commander.  Col. Cramer completed a one-year ADOS tour at Andrews AFB in 2016, where he functioned as the ANG Innovative Readiness Program Manager, managing over $5MM in OASD funds and significantly reduced application processing times, enabling enhanced readiness skills training for ANG units.  Throughout his career he has been recognized at many levels for his innovate accomplishments and elected by his peers to serve on various Field Advisory Councils.  In 2014, he and the 179th AW Medical Group was recognized for their innovative accomplishments and cutting edge approach in patient care.  While serving as the Military Personnel Flight Commander, the organization was recognized by Air Mobility Command with the Gerrit Foster Outstanding MPF of the Year Award in 2008.  In 1998, Col Cramer was selected as the State of Ohio Outstanding 2nd Lieutenant of the Year.
